Paediatric Dentist

Nikos Lygidakis started working at the Lygidakis Dental Clinic in 2017. He graduated from the dental school of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 2011.

In 2017 he completed a three year clinical and research doctorate (Doctor in Dentistry) in Paediatric dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital of the University College Hospital, receiving the ”Winter Prize” for the best trainee of the year. In 2017 he also passed the challenging examination for the membership of Paediatric Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons, thus completing his training as a Paediatric dentist. 

Before his specialty training, he worked for two years for the national health service of the UK as a general dental practitioner, doing rotations in multiple dental practices in London and Essex as well as domiciliary visits. As part of his pre-specialty training, he also worked for one year as a Junior Doctor at the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford in the Oral and Maxillofacial department. At the same time he also passed the Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties examination of the Royal College of Surgeons, the requirement for entry into postgraduate training.

In January 2023 he qualified from the 2 year New York University CDE program “Minor Tooth Movement,  for the Advanced General Practitioner” and in 2024 he was awarded an “MSc in Specialized Orthodontics” from the Duisburg-Essen University in Germany.

Nikos is interested in academic research and he regularly attends conferences in Paediatric dentistry in Greece and Europe. Nikos has published more than 13 papers in internationally acclaimed journals, 1 chapter in a book, and has 27 oral and poster presentations at Greek and International conferences. He is an active member of the Hellenic Society of Paediatric Dentistry (Board member 2023-2024) as well as the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, in the later being member του ‘Clinical Affairs Committee’ since 2022.

His research interests are biomaterials as well as dental trauma and dental anomalies. For his research has has been awarded 3 european awards. He has received the ‘EAPD 2019 Award for Clinical Cases Poster Presentation’ for the clinical topic ‘Multidisciplinary approach for the management of two cases with gemination and complicated fusion of maxillary central incisors’, the ‘EAPD 2020 Young Scientist Award’ for the presentation of his doctorate entitled ‘antibacterial properties of novel dental composites in paediatric dentistry’ and finally the ‘EAPD 2023 Young Scientist Award’ for the research study ‘Fissure sealants on permanent molars using two different materials: a five-year prospective survival study’.
